Entry #8 MAKEUP TIME
Makeup can be a very liberating part of someone's life. Makeup can conceal certain aspects that may cause people to feel insecure, which is so convenient! However, makeup can also enhance your favorite features about yourself and consequently boost your overall confidence. I think it is important to explore the world of makeup, because you will never know the positivity it could bring into your life unless you try. Today I want to "highlight" the benefit of wearing makeup as well as share some tips for finding a look that is right for you. Let's dive in!
To start, I began wearing makeup at a young age. As a result, I am now able to look back in the last five years to see how I have grown and progressed through makeup. When I was fourteen, I began wearing minimal makeup mainly around my house to "experiment" with what I liked. I wore mainly mascara, eyeliner, and occasionally eyeshadow. At this time, nobody I knew wore any face makeup or did their eyebrows. Moving forward, when I started high school I really began to experiment and try new things in makeup. I began doing "winged-eyeliner" as well as tweezing my eyebrows myself. This lead to many issues in the future because I had no idea what I was doing. My first tip is to get your eyebrows done professionally if you have never done them before!
Furthermore, as I learned how to do my makeup to compliment my natural features, I also learned how to conceal what I did not necessarily like about myself. My second tip is that "less is more". As cliche as this may sound, a little amount of makeup really does go a long way. Don't get me wrong, glam is never a bad idea! However, excessive amounts of makeup that is applied incorrectly never gives you the results you are looking for. I have learned in my experience that taking the time to do less makeup is better than rushing through a lot of makeup application.
My last tip is to not be afraid! Never let the fear of doing something unfamiliar stop you from trying new things. Makeup is intended to be a fun, uplifting experience and should be treated as so. Take the time to find the right makeup, even if it is more expensive. Read reviews online of makeup products. Watch youtube beauty gurus to get a second opinion on something you might be considering. Take the time to find what is right for you and have fun!

I also started doing my makeup when I was young for my dance recitals and competitions. I was taught that it is definitely different than what you would normally put on for every day use since makeup on stage is used to bring out your face in hopes that it doesn't get lost in the bright stage lights. Being taught in my home growing up that I couldn't wear makeup until I was older, stopped me from practicing putting on regular makeup for a more "natural" look. So naturally, when I was old enough around 16-years-old, I would put it on too dark. This deterred me from using makeup for awhile because I didn't want to look like a clown. I ended up shunning other women wearing excessive amounts of makeup due to my immaturity and ignorance. As an adult, I can see both sides of view how natural is beautiful, but sometimes it is fun to try new colors and shapes to form your face with makeup. As some friends of mine said, "It is like creating art on your face."
ReplyDeleteI have been in love with makeup for as long as I can remember. Makeup was normalized for me around the 6th grade. Honestly though I think because of the way that our society works it is almost too normalized and not always in a good way. As a teen I would literally be late to school if I did not have makeup on. However, I have officially become comfortable and I think it is becoming more common for people to not wear makeup. Now that I have matured I really enjoy the art form of makeup, and wish I was more like a Jeffree Star or creative at least.
