Entry #10 Push Yourself Out of Your Comfort Zone!
Welcome back to Jazzy's world! Today I wanted to focus on how to push yourself out of your comfort zone to ultimately grow as an individual. To begin, I have grown immensely throughout my adolescence. As a result, I have learned learned tricks along the way that I want to share with others. As I reflect on my early-teenage years, I wish I could have received these this information.
The first tip: Accept Failure
Although this sounds negative, it is the opposite. I used to have a tendency to anticipate what succeeding may feel like. What do I mean by this? While I was growing up I often approached situations with the "I am going to exceed my expectations" mentality. Although this is extremely motivating and a great way to boost confidence, it did not prepare me for reality. I have learned how to prepare myself for if a goal of mine is not met. I have also learned that it is okay if I do not reach my goals the very first time! Failure is obviously not desired, however, I think it is important for individuals to use failure as a boost to reach success.
The second tip: Celebrate Small Victories!
I have learned that celebrating small victories is more rewarding than occasionally celebrating large accomplishments. When you follow this tip, you constantly feel accomplished. I have learned the importance of recognized that we are always growing and accomplishing new things! I used to be so hard on myself in between large accomplishments because I felt as though I was periodically "not meeting any goals" and I felt stuck. However, once I created a habit of thinking positively about myself and my accomplishments, I was able to feel proud of myself for once.
The third tip: Stop Wasting Time!!!
I have learned to stop using "I wish" and "I want" when I talk about my goals in life. I have learned that this is indirectly training my brain to recognized that whatever I am talking about is suddenly "unattainable". Instead, I have forced myself to say "I will" and "I am". This appears to be a miniscule shift in vocabulary, however, I have found it effective in boosting my motivation. Stop limiting yourself! If you want something, get it!
