Entry #10 Push Yourself Out of Your Comfort Zone!

Welcome back to Jazzy's world! Today I wanted to focus on how to push yourself out of your comfort zone to ultimately grow as an individual. To begin, I have grown immensely throughout my adolescence. As a result, I have learned learned tricks along the way that I want to share with others. As I reflect on my early-teenage years, I wish I could have received these this information. The first tip: Accept Failure Although this sounds negative, it is the opposite. I used to have a tendency to anticipate what succeeding may feel like. What do I mean by this? While I was growing up I often approached situations with the "I am going to exceed my expectations" mentality. Although this is extremely motivating and a great way to boost confidence, it did not prepare me for reality. I have learned how to prepare myself for if a goal of mine is not met. I have also learned that it is okay if I do not reach my goals the very first time! Failure is obviously not desired, however, I t...

Entry #9 What ARE We Putting into Our Bodies?

Image
Welcome back! Today I wanted to focus on the topic of food and how, as a society, we are allowing it to blindly negatively affect our bodies. Crazy right?  The image above is a perfection depiction of the way our society is currently conditioned to live and think. It is a picture of a man who is supposed to resemble the "food industry" as a whole offering more salt to a grave stone. I think the purpose of this picture is to show our society what we look like from an outside perspective. In other words, it is definitely fair to suggest that different parts of the world as significantly healthier and more self-aware of the food they consume compared to our society. Furthermore, this simple picture brings awareness to how we are unintentionally presenting ourselves to the rest of the world. I felt that this picture was important to share with the class when discussing food because it is the sad reality that our world has come to. People are just simply not aware and too lazy ...

EC Food Inc

Food Inc is an incredible documentary that illustrates multiple aspects of the food we eat everyday. Food Inc discusses the downside to industrialization, fast-food, as well as the unfair treatment of animals.  The Film starts by outlining the inconsistencies of the infamous, modern American supermarket, where seasons do not exist and the meat has no bones. The film mentions, "...there is a deliberate veil drawn over the realities of the food production chain, which is basically a factory system, an industrialised system". Moving forward, the documentary is dedicated to explaining the downsides of this system. The film proposes  that the move towards an industrial food system all began with McDonalds. The restaurant that Americans have grown to love in the past decades. The documentary highlights that when the McDonald brothers got rid of their waitresses and invented the drive through to cut costs, it caught on massively in society and started a ripple-effect. McDonald’s and...

Entry #8 MAKEUP TIME

Image
Makeup can be a very liberating part of someone's life. Makeup can conceal certain aspects that may cause people to feel insecure, which is so convenient! However, makeup can also enhance your favorite features about yourself and consequently boost your overall confidence. I think it is important to explore the world of makeup, because you will never know the positivity it could bring into your life unless you try. Today I want to "highlight" the benefit of wearing makeup as well as share some tips for finding a look that is right for you. Let's dive in! To start, I began wearing makeup at a young age. As a result, I am now able to look back in the last five years to see how I have grown and progressed through makeup. When I was fourteen, I began wearing minimal makeup mainly around my house to "experiment" with what I liked. I wore mainly mascara, eyeliner, and occasionally eyeshadow. At this time, nobody I knew wore any face makeup or did their eyebrows...

Entry #7 Fresh!

After watching "Fresh" I am with a rather interesting taste in my mouth. I am left with many questions regarding the food industry, the corporate world, and what I truly am putting into my body each meal. These thoughts have consumed my mind along with questions that do not seem to have answers to. However, this movie has definitely inspired me to dive into the world of food and find answers to those questions! I feel that the purpose of this film is to not only bring awareness to the problems and consequences associated with the food industry, but also shed a light on the pioneers of change in the food industry such as Joel Salatin and Diana Endicott. The audience has been narrowed down to consumers in America. The tone impacted me as a viewer because it contains a lot of bias remarks. The goal of the film is to persuade the audience to advocate for change in the food industry. Because of this goal, the film's tone causes the reader to think negatively about the current ...

Entry #6 A Guide: Finding Your Passion

Image
What is your passion? What is the one thing that inspires you? What is the one thing that fills you with motivation? I never searched for my passion until I realized that my life lacked fulfillment. I feel that the fast-paced environment that life constantly surrounds people with prevents people from truly living. My goal is that by sharing my story, I will be able to provide others with the confidence to learn more about themselves, discover a new hobby, and pursue their happiness as an individual. My story began my freshman year of high school when I was just fourteen years old. I somehow found the courage within myself to venture out of my comfort zone and sign up for my first ever dance class. This was a pivotal moment in my journey to finding my passion. In my experience I have learned that stepping outside of your comfort zone is the most necessary step to finding new hobbies. My freshman year including me learning how to be confident in front of others while attempting to do a l...

Entry #5 Pink Subaru Teenager Commercial

I feel it is fair to say that all advertisements exist for the purpose of promoting a product. I have only begun to understand the tactics involved when companies decide to push a product to consumers. The pink subaru teenager commercial is an excellent example that intrigued me immediately. Linked below is the full commercial on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=30&v=BlfinjxFEYI In this commercial, the audience is shown a slightly comical approach to instill the idea of not texting and driving into teenagers. The entire video is centered around a grown man mimicking a teenage girl's thoughts while texting about a crush in school.  The video begins and I initially saw a middle-aged man sitting in a bubblegum pink car texting. However, I was still unsure as to how the stereotypically pink car matched this man. The actor in this commercial begins by saying, "I'm a teenage girl. My BFF Becky texts me and says she kissed Johnny". This statement he...
